Rapid Intervention Team (RIT) Training at Northampton Fire Department

by Marcus

Northampton Firefighters continuously train. This scenario is designed to allow the firefighter to troubleshoot different situations with their self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA), using only touch. Each firefighter has their mask covered and is unable to see, simulating the near-zero visibility in a fire. Firefighters were required to change air bottles, change air packs, crawl through confined spaces, identify individual tools and hose line connections and assist with a “downed firefighter.” Trainings such as this ensure skills and techniques remain sharp and allow firefighters to operate more efficiently and effectively at fire scenes.
