FOGTEC cylinder system operates similar to a gas extinguishing system. The cylinder system consists of two different types of cylinders, one type is filled with water at atmospheric pressure and the others with nitrogen pressurised to 200 bar, used as propellant.

The activation of a cylinder system is triggered by one master cylinder. This master cylinder will then activate all further slave cylinders.

In dry pipe deluge systems the activation is triggered by an electric signal from a separate detection system. The cylinder valve is a solenoid operated valve with manual override for safety reasons in case of electric failure. This opens the differential pressure valve to discharge the nitrogen into the slave cylinders.

In a wet pipe system a glass bulb triggers activation. The pressurised pipe system is connected to the cylinder valve on the master cylinder, which is a differential pressure valve. Activation is achieved by breaking a glass bulb located within the body of the FOGTEC nozzle. This causes the release of control pressure in the pressurised pipeline. This opens the differential pressure valve. The master cylinder will then activate different configurations of slave cylinder assemblies.
